Flat bread turkey sausage and vanilla chai. Also had a breakfast ciabatta at Au Bon Pan. DD & ABP are alternatives when traveling through BOS.

About this blog and why I created it.
Hello friends and readers, this is my first post so I thought that I would explain why I created this blog. I am a work from home professional, married with 3 year old twin boys, who enjoys living an adventurous life (travel, music, sports) and the occasional cup of coffee. I have lived in the Seattle area for the past 7 years and have been thrilled at the abundance and variety of cafes, coffee shops and chai houses. In fact, my first date with my wife was at Fremont Coffee and I also hosted an open mic at Trabant Coffee & Chai in the U District. We now live in the Colman Neighborhood in the Central Area.
Having lived and traveled in numerous places in the US and abroad for the past 20 years, I noticed the impact of commercialism and consumerism has had everywhere. In fact, Seattle based companies have made more than their share of impact in the areas of airplanes, warehouse clubs, department stores, on-line retail, mobile phone operators, home computing software and coffee. Although, this does bring a sense of pride to the area, numerous jobs and local tax revenue, it also increases the homogenization of local cultures and consumer choices.
LBJ put it best - “We live in a world that has narrowed into a neighborhood before it has broadened into a brotherhood.”
So why the title "Anywhere but Starbucks" for this post? Here are my reasons:
- To share my experiences with trying local coffee shops while at home and on the road.
- Supporting small businesses to encourage creative thought and entrepreneurship.
- Spreading the word on all things local - community, neighborhoods and music!
- Not spending any more money on a corporation whose CEO betrayed the local community by selling the professional basketball team for a profit, after receiving a hometown discount when originally purchasing the team.
By no means am I a foodie or a connoisseur of coffee. I admit that I can't tell the difference between good and great foods except for hot dogs and pizza, however I can tell the difference between good and bad for most everything else.
Thanks for reading!
